De La Double

De La Soul is back. Maybe they never left, but their last couple records had me thinking they did. Their new disc is the tightest joint they've unleashed in years, certainly since "Stakes Is High." Here's an album review and a live concert review for ya.

By the way, their own pair of Nike kicks are on the way. Credit: 5th Dimension

BTW #2, at the De La gig I went to, Trugoy revealed the crew is trying to get a mega tour together with A Tribe Called Quest, Wu Tang Clan, Biz Markie, Mos Def & more. Guess the Native Tongues have officially been reinstated.

BTW #3: Can I please get an A Tribe Called Quest tourdate in DC?

BTW #4: Speaking of our nation's cap, the powers that be will now be able to e-mail or text message us when a dirty bomb detonates down the street. My question is, will they be sending the info in a real DC emergency? Like when a 1/2 inch of snow hits the pavement?

Wax Melter

Damn, does Rjd2 have balls. First he drops an amazing rookie disc that knocks folks on their asses. They he comes back with more rock influenced instrumentals and even a pair of tracks where he actually sings! And no, the guy can't really carry much of a tune, but that's not the point. The fact that he's crooning in concert with an acoustic axe is highly commendable. He rocked the Black Cat with 4 turntables, a mixer and MPC-2000XL sampler/drum machine. Word.

Sonic Stutters

Rob Sonic's "Telicatessen" is the newest Def Jux disc. Predictably so, it's a bit freaky, but thoughtful. I ran into a quite imposing looking Mr. Sonic at a Rjd2 gig at DC's Black Cat and I must say, the guy was mad cool. Here's something I wrote about his solo debut.
